Bezant Resources Plc (AIM: BZT) has commenced commercial production at its Hope & Gorob copper-gold project, marking the company’s transition from mine development into revenue-generating operations.
Run-of-mine ore from the newly developed mine is now being processed through the Tsoaxaub Metals flotation plant, with copper-gold concentrate being produced during the ongoing commissioning phase.
Bezant said mine and processing plant construction was completed ahead of schedule and within internal budgets, 21 weeks after groundbreaking.
The processing plant is currently operating as required and, according to the company, has so far experienced no major mechanical issues.
Initial throughput for October remains targeted at a minimum of 9,000 tonnes per month, with production expected to ramp progressively towards the plant’s nameplate capacity by the end of 2026.
The company expects the first saleable concentrate to be available for offtake in late October 2026.
More than 40,000 tonnes of run-of-mine ore has been mined since mid-August, including approximately 10,000 tonnes currently stockpiled at the processing plant.
Bezant said initial indications suggest copper grades are comparing favourably with the project’s resource estimates and Hope open-pit block model, while gold grades in the run-of-mine material are currently above forecast.
These are initial operational indications rather than final reconciled production grades, making future plant and sales data important in assessing actual performance.
The company has also begun planning a Phase II expansion, centred on a tandem processing plant that could increase throughput by up to 40% using ore from the existing Hope & Gorob resource.
Further step-out and expansion drilling is planned once stable production and cash flow have been established.
That drilling will target an initial 500,000 tonnes of contained copper, which Bezant says represents the anticipated minimum scale required to consider a potential Phase III processing plant capable of producing 25,000 tonnes per year.
Executive chairman Colin Bird said the immediate priority remains achieving sustainable production and increasing mining and processing capacity, while engineering work for the Phase II expansion has already been completed.
For investors, commencement of production is a major de-risking milestone because Hope & Gorob has now moved beyond construction and into actual processing.
The next test is operational rather than developmental: whether the plant can consistently process ore at targeted throughput, produce saleable concentrate on schedule and demonstrate grades and recoveries sufficient to support sustainable cash generation.
If that is achieved, attention can then shift towards the proposed 40% Phase II throughput expansion and the longer-term Phase III resource and production targets.
Investor takeaway: Bezant Resources has moved Hope & Gorob from development into commercial production, with run-of-mine ore now being processed through the Tsoaxaub Metals flotation plant. Initial concentrate production has begun, but the key next milestones are first saleable concentrate in late October, achievement of stable throughput and a ramp-up towards nameplate capacity by year-end.
