ANGLE PLC (AIM: AGL, OTCQX: ANPCY), a leader in liquid biopsy technology, has reported encouraging results from a study using its Parsortix system to predict progression-free survival among ovarian cancer patients.
The study analyzed 474 blood samples from 123 patients with metastatic ovarian cancer over a period of two and a half years.
Using the Parsortix system, which isolates circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from the blood, researchers conducted molecular analyses on two genes: ESR1 and ERCC1. The presence of ESR1, which is linked to a lower risk of cancer progression, and the absence of ERCC1, associated with higher disease progression, provided early predictors of patient outcomes.
The findings revealed that ESR1 was indicative of better progression-free survival, while ERCC1 suggested a greater risk of cancer progression.
This research, the most extensive of its type on ovarian cancer to date, was carried out by the Medical University of Vienna as part of the European GANNET53 Phase II clinical trial. The results, published in the International Journal of Cancer, highlight the value of monitoring these biomarkers in drug trials and patient care.
Karen Miller, ANGLE’s Chief Scientific Officer, noted, “The breadth and depth of this study, in terms of patient numbers and the duration of follow-up, are particularly significant.
It demonstrates the potential of the Parsortix system to provide early insights into patient responses in cancer trials, which could be invaluable to our pharmaceutical clients in the future.”
