Aldi has revealed updated pay scales, positioning itself as the first UK supermarket to ensure a minimum wage of at least £12 per hour for all its store and warehouse staff.
The base pay will see a rise of 40p per hour, and within the M25 area, it will increase by 70p to £13.55, with these changes effective from February.
The company is allocating £67m towards wage enhancements, noting that it remains the sole supermarket to provide paid breaks, which translates to an additional benefit of over £900 annually for the average store employee.
Giles Hurley, the CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland, stated, “In line with our commitment to offering the best value to our customers, we are equally dedicated to being the top-paying supermarket in the industry.”
As the fourth-largest supermarket chain in the UK, Aldi operates over 1,000 stores, and 11 regional distribution centres, and employs 40,000 people nationwide.
