Unicorn identifies new drill targets at Kilmallock following positive 3D gravity modelling

Unicorn Mineral Resources Plc (LON: UMR) has reported encouraging results from 3D gravity modelling at its Kilmallock zinc project in Ireland, identifying five significant untested gravity anomalies that could represent alteration zones or massive sulphide mineralisation.

The anomalies are closely associated with major northwest-southeast fault systems that control mineralisation throughout the prolific Irish Midlands Orefield, providing compelling new exploration targets.

One particularly notable strike-parallel gravity anomaly south of Bulgaden remains completely untested by historic drilling and could represent a larger mineralised system than previously recognised. Another anomaly identified on the eastern edge of the survey area requires additional work to determine its full extent.

To refine these targets, Unicorn has commissioned a new 340-station gravity survey, increasing survey density to approximately one station every 200 metres across the most prospective parts of the licence package. The expanded survey extends eastwards towards Group Eleven Resources’ high-grade Ballywire discovery and south across the Waulsortian Reef host rocks, with the objective of producing a more detailed density model before drilling decisions are made.

The Kilmallock project occupies a strategic position within the highly prospective Limerick Basin, immediately along strike from several major Irish zinc deposits including Ballywire, Pallas Green and Stonepark. Around 80% of the licence area is underlain by prospective Waulsortian Reef carbonates, the principal host rock for Irish zinc-lead deposits.

Historic drilling has already confirmed significant mineralisation within the licence area, including intersections at the Bulgaden prospect of 4.5 metres grading 16.53% zinc and 1.25% lead, with the mineralising system remaining open.

Management noted that the company’s exploration strategy closely mirrors the successful approach used by neighbouring Group Eleven Resources before its Ballywire discovery. The additional gravity work is intended to generate higher-confidence drill targets while maintaining the licence block in good standing with the regulator.

Chairman Paddy Doherty said the combination of Kilmallock’s location along Ireland’s premier zinc trend, its proximity to the rapidly expanding Ballywire discovery and the newly identified gravity anomalies further reinforces the project’s exploration potential, although further survey work will be completed before committing to a drilling programme.
