Asian markets outside China saw declines in cautious trading as investors awaited earnings reports from both the region and abroad, following the end of Wall Street’s extended record-breaking rally.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 1.1% to 38,496.44, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 1.6% to 8,213.00, and South Korea’s Kospi slipped nearly 1% to 2,579.56.
In contrast, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.5% to 20,576.07, and the Shanghai Composite rose 0.5% to 3,285.49 after an interest rate cut took effect on Monday.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 edged down 0.2% to 5,853.98, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.8% to 42,931.60, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.3% to 18,540.01.
In the bond market, yields on 10-year US Treasury notes increased to 4.206%, up from 4.086% late Sunday.
